Fourier spectrum of radially periodic images

چکیده

Although the spectrum of radially periodic images is often expressed in terms of finite or infinite series of Bessel functions, such expressions do not clearly reveal the exact impulsive structure of the spectrum. An alternative Fourier decomposition of radially periodic images, in terms of circular cosine functions, is presented, and its significant advantages are shown. It is shown that the Fourier transform of the circular cosine function, which can be expressed in terms of a half-order derivative of the impulse ring d(r 2 f ), plays a fundamental role in the spectra of radially periodic functions. Just as any symmetric periodic function p(x) in the one-dimensional case can be represented by a sum of cosines with frequencies of f 5 1/T, 2/T, ... [the Fourier series decomposition of p(x)], a radially periodic function in the two-dimensional case can be decomposed into a circular Fourier series, which is a sum of circular cosine functions with radial frequencies of f 5 1/T, 2/T, ... . This result can also be formulated in terms of the spectral domain: Just as the Fourier transform of a one-dimensional periodic function consists of impulse pairs located at f 5 n/T (the Fourier transforms of the cosines in the sum), the Fourier spectrum of a radially periodic function in the twodimensional case consists of half-order derivative impulse rings with radii f 5 n/T (which are the Fourier transforms of the circular cosines in the sum). The significance of these results is discussed, and it is briefly shown how they can be extended into dimensions other than two. © 1997 Optical Society of America [S0740-3232(97)00504-8]

Fourier spectra of radially periodic images with a non-symmetric radial period

It has been previously shown that a radially periodic image having a symmetric radial period can be decomposed into a circular Fourier series of circular cosine functions with radial frequencies of f = 1/T , 2/T , . . . , and that its Fourier spectrum consists of a series of half-order derivative impulse rings with radii f = n/T (which are the Fourier transforms of the circular cosines in the s...

Advances in Technology of KODAK NEXPRESS Digital Production Color Presses

The stochastic screen has traditionally been used to preserve images with fine features as well as to reduce printing Moiré of images that contain input periodic structures. However, the stochastic screen also has experienced more difficulty in maintaining color stability in long press runs. Kodak, using its multilevel printing architecture, has created a new stochastic screening technology, wi...

A New Method for Coarse Classification of Textures and Class Weight Estimation for Texture Retrieval

In this paper, a new texture classification method is provided for dividing texture images into three classes: periodic, directional, and random. The method is based on the fact that for a directional texture image, the magnitudes of its Fourier spectrum will concentrate on a certain direction; for periodic, on several directions; and for random, spread out over all directions. To use this fact...

Polar Fourier transforms of radially sampled NMR data.

Radial sampling of the NMR time domain has recently been introduced to speed up data collection significantly. Here, we show that radially sampled data can be processed directly using Fourier transforms in polar coordinates. We present a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the discrete polar Fourier transform, and derive the consequences of its application to radially sampled data using linea...

Fourier Power Spectrum Characteristics of Face Photographs: Attractiveness Perception Depends on Low-Level Image Properties

We investigated whether low-level processed image properties that are shared by natural scenes and artworks - but not veridical face photographs - affect the perception of facial attractiveness and age. Specifically, we considered the slope of the radially averaged Fourier power spectrum in a log-log plot. This slope is a measure of the distribution of special frequency power in an image. Image...
